• Welcome!

Luster Studios is my personal portfolio where I share weddings, special events, engagement sessions and portraits. My origins stem from a fine arts degree in photography and computer graphics. My "style" is a perfect blend of creative ideas driven by a relaxed attitude and a fun yet thoughtful personality.

Through a combination of posing and photojournalism I strive to capture planned and spontaneous moments that will later help you relive how you were feeling at that exact moment. I'm based in North Carolina and often travel to destination locations. I look forward to getting to know what inspires you both creatively and personally.

UNC Campus / Chapel Hill Engagement Photos (Audrey + Daniel)

Audrey wrote me a really nice initial email explaining that they had been looking for a wedding photographer and had stumbled onto my website. She said how much they both loved my photographs and that they were drawn to the artistic quality and the naturalism in my photos. She said they could really feel and see all the emotion captured in the photographs and that they really appreciate artistic and fun photos rather than the traditional “stand and smile” photography. I knew we were going to be a great fit and that they were going to be choosing me for all the right reasons. I always appreciate and embrace couples that aren’t just hiring me just because they “need a good photographer.”

Daniel grew up in Mt. Airy, NC and Audrey grew up in Maiden, NC. They both went to undergraduate at UNC Chapel Hill. Audrey is a nurse and Daniel is in school to be a dentist at UMB. They met while Audrey was over at her friend Ashley’s apartment studying for a nursing exam. Daniel was Ashley’s next door neighbor and came over to watch Grey’s Anatomy. When he walked in and met Audrey they both had an instant connection.

In fact, you may thing that this is a bit strange but the first time they met, they both discussed their love for teeth… It was love at first sight! For me it conjures up quite a strange image! Instead of “Cupid” making a love match, I can picture some giant tooth with wings and a bow complete with a tooth tipped arrow. I shall name him “Cuspid” instead of “Cupid!” If anyone wants to draw me a photo of what this might look like I’ll post it up here on the blog. :)

For their first date (other than their initial marathon “phone dates” over Christmas break) they watched Stranger Than Fiction (I’ve seen that one too… great movie!) and sat and talked until 4 in the morning! They soon found that their shared interest in science and health care was one of the biggest things they had in common! They told me that they’re looking forward to taking medical mission trips together in the future!

I asked them what kind of music and movies they’ve grown to like and they told me that they both love Dashboard Confessional, The Killers, Keane, Snow Patrol, Jason Mraz and their new favorite was Anoop on American Idol since he was a fellow tarheel! Daniel plays the guitar and they love movies like Just Friends, The Harry Potter movies, almost any Will Ferrell movie, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and and many classic musicals! One of their favs is “Laws of Attraction” since the main characters are named Audrey & Daniel. :)

They’ve been together for a a little over a year now, but got engaged when they had been dating for 8 months. I really think it’s awesome when two people immediately know that they are the perfect fit for eachother. I had asked them how Daniel proposed and he told me that he decided to choose UNC’s in autumn as his canvas. So beautiful that time of year!

While walking by the old well Daniel asked if they could sit on the legendary Davie Popular bench. I didn’t know this but the story goes that any couples who sit on the bench together are destined to be married. Obviously it must work because after they sat Daniel got down on one knee and asked Audrey to marry him! One thing that I thought was really awesome was that Audrey’s sister, Vanessa was also there (hiding amongst the bushes and trees) taking pictures as the scene unfolded! How cool is that? I wanted to make sure I got a few photos of them by the bench as well. Speaking of photos… I think I have some to share with you!
