I recently traveled to Durham, NC to photograph Allyson and Philip’s wedding at the Umstead Pines at Willowhaven Country Club. I had documented one of their friend’s wedding last year (Darla and David) and they graciously ended up referring me. I had already photographed their engagement session as well as Allyson’s bridal portrait which was great because I felt a wonderful rapport with the couple. The wedding featured a lot DIY details and many of the wedding guests were also key members at the club.
Even though it was a fairly large wedding with a lot of energy, I enjoyed the challenge of capturing the meaningful key moments of the day. As you’ll see below there were some really memorable surprises too! Thanks you to everyone for sharing your special day with me and a special congratulation to Allyson and Philip. May your days ahead be filled with happiness and many more meaningful moments…
Willowhaven Manager: Kim Carpenter
Wedding Director: Rhonda Hagan

Wedding Cake: Lori Paschall

I was so excited when I found a row of pink lockers complete with combination locks.

Allyson’s pink phone was a must have accessory for the shoot.

The wedding cake featured light blue ribbons and was sprinkled with a light dusting of sugar for a crystal-like texture.

The family joins in a prayer circle before the wedding ceremony.

Flower petals lined the wedding aisle where the processional would soon take place.

Philip was surprisingly calm just moments before the wedding ceremony.

On the other hand… I think his mom was very excited and I could tell she was filled with a myriad of emotions. I really like this photograph of mother and son looking at each other.

Simply breathtaking…

The flower girl fell asleep (standing up) for just a moment and I happened to be at the right place at the right time. I think this is such a cute picture.

Allyson’s sister Courtney did a wonderful job singing during the ceremony.

A quick kiss during the wedding recessional.

Kailey is the daughter of Willowhaven’s manager. I thought that this photo turned out adorable.

One of my favorites of the recently married couple.

The bride and groom share their first dance.

… then the father daughter dance…

and a wonderful captured moment during the mother daughter dance.

I really liked how the garter toss and the bouquet toss turned out as well.

Just look at all of these wonderful and unique expressions on the single ladies faces…

This photograph was taken while dropping the wedding rings onto the ice sculpture. It took a few times to capture, but I think it was worth it.

WWF superstar Ric Flair (also known as the Nature Boy) made a surprise apperance at the end of the night.

The couple’s wedding favors consisted of ring pops and candy. I grabbed a “blueberry one” to match her wedding colors and used it in place of her engagement ring

A bubble send off and then…

Philip’s truck was “towed in” by one of the tow trucks that belonged to the family business. I think a detergent bottle even made it into the mix of tin cans. So funny!
