Today I traveled to Duke Chapel to photograph a fantastic wedding ceremony. Then I headed to the North Carolina Museum of History for Barbie and Ken’s wonderful wedding reception. Their wedding date is officially April 1, 2010 and I’ll be honest that I was a little nervous for the first time to photograph this wedding. The reason was that this was my first “triple header” wedding in which Barbie was not only sharing her big day with her fiance, but was getting married at the same time with her sisters Barbie and Barbie. Coincidentally, their fiances names were Ken as well. What are the odds?
When we first met, all six of them were a little stiff, but after I explained to them that my style is to try “not to pose and contort my subjects” everyone relaxed a bit. They shared with me that they had all met over fifty years ago and fell in love instantly. They had been engaged for forty nine years and had decided to take their time to plan the wedding. I agreed that it can sometimes take that long.
At the wedding, they all looked AMAZING and even seemed to have a permanent smile on their faces throughout the day. You can really feel the love when everyone looks so happy. It’s contagious! Thanks you Barbie(s) and Ken(s) for letting me be a part of your special day.

Barbie and Ken pose for me in front of Duke Chapel. We noticed that the flowers this spring were exceptionally large! Maybe the Chapel is using Miracle-Gro?

When Barbie walked down the aisle she did “the robot!” Ken was so pleased! When she got to the wedding altar she said “Take THAT JK Wedding Entrance Dance! I’ll see you on youtube!”

Isn’t Barbie a doll? Simply gorgeous! I love this photo…

In this one I asked them to hold each other with their arms around their waist but they accidentally faced in different directions. It was pure, unplanned and wedding photojournalism gold!

This was the first time that I had seen a bridesmaid dress that was so similar to the brides wedding gown. I guess brides are more progressive nowadays?

The ring bearer was super cute with his Easter tux.

When the flower girl walked down the aisle she actually balanced the bouquet on the back of her hand…

… and she didn’t even trip!

Mattel created a wonderful three tier wedding cake. The fondant seemed a little hard but the insides tasted great!

Just look at the way that they’re sort of looking at each other… Love…sweet love…

I really had you going there didn’t I? APRIL FOOLS! These are simply JUST photographs (as you can see below) of the wedding collection of Barbie and Ken dolls. I know that my skills behind the camera totally had you fooled… so I must apologize for my crafty ruse.
