If you’ve visited any bridal shows recently or stopped in to pick up a wedding magazine near Chapel Hill, Durham, Cary, or Raleigh you’ve undoubtedly stumbled on Southern Bride & Groom. As one of North Carolina’s most trusted wedding magazines, this essential bridal guide has info on everything brides and grooms need to plan their upcoming wedding.
Donna Parks and Jenna Parks are a mother-daughter team that produce the magazine with the help of their talented art director Patricia Campbell. They are very selective in whom they invite into the pages of their publication, so I feel fortunate to be a part of it. Over the years I’ve witnessed their dedication to SB&G shine through in both their personality and commitment to high quality content. I feel that the entire team showcases innovative ideas and I’ve definitely appreciated the attention to details, not only in the layout but in their authentic approach.

This year Southern Bride and Groom celebrates twenty-five years. As Donna and Jenna shared some history of the magazine with me, we reminisced about how different it must have been to plan a wedding without the use of modern technology and the internet. This sparked some conversation about how much weddings (and styles) have changed over a quarter of a century and the ways the magazines used to be printed. We remarked that twenty-five years is a great achievement for any business.

To celebrate this accomplishment we came up with a concept for a photo shoot that utilized traditional printing methods. We were lucky enough to find a talented letterpress artist in Durham that still practices the craft. Brian Allen runs Artisan Printer and allowed us to print an SB&G logo on some fine art paper using an old printing press from the 1850′s – clearly older than any of us!

As you can see it was a truly creative experience. As a wedding photographer I enjoy working with good people and helping to shape and capture unique moments while enjoying the process itself. I hope you enjoy the fruits of our labor and are able to pick up a complimentary copy of SB&G and visit their website for all your wedding planning needs.
