One of my most exciting memories as a child were the field trips that we took. Not only was it a great way to get away from the normal routine of classes and tests but I always felt like I was visiting a whole other world whenever we would travel to a new city. For these photographs I had followed a fleet of buses that were lined up for tours of The North Carolina State Capitol.
I focused on what particular group that were visiting from Gaston Day School in Gastonia. Both the kids (and teachers) were very fun to photograph. The school had later sent me a note of thanks and said that the kids had a blast and felt like models in front of my “paparazzi” camera. That made me smile. :) Also, a lot of the parents said that they enjoyed viewing them as well. I bet most of them wish that they could have taken a day off of work and tagged along!

Lots of school buses full of eager young minds getting ready to take a tour of The North Carolina State Capitol.

I met Tad Hixson as he was capturing some photos of the kids in front of The Capitol Building.

I offered to take a few professional portraits and send them to the school.

Ray Strickland was their guide. He shared a few photographs (and the history) of the original Capitol Building.

He was really engaging and had a few great questions (and jokes) up his red sleeves.
