Jeff and Melinda are anxiously anticipating their wedding in October this year. They are such a fun couple! So… for their engagement photos I presented them with an idea that I’ve always wanted to do… and they were totally up for it!
I’ve wanted to photgraph a couple blowing bubbles, and happened to find some plastic “bubble wands” that ALSO look like Star Wars lightsabers. It’s the best of both worlds… both ours… and the one’s in galaxies far far away.
We scheduled the engagement session for the fourth of July and decided to make a night of it. First we got together dinner at their favorite BBQ restaurant (aptly named The Original Q Shack) in Durham and then headed over to The Sarah P. Duke Gardens and to downtown Durham for a few photos. After that, we caught part of the fireworks display at the Durham Bulls Stadium.
It was a beautiful night with great food, a love for my job, and lots of laughter… the perfect mix!

Now THAT’S a classic defensive maneuver Jeff!

This one is hilarious! Melinda’s mouth looks gigantic in the magnification of the bubble.

Jeff was having a bit of trouble blowing bubbles. Perhaps Melinda’s jabbing fingers had something to do with it as she started popping every one of them.

During an engagement shoot it’s important to reduce the risk of contracting the dreaded “smile cramps” by exercising your “frown and pout” muscles every 15 minutes.

I just thought this one was kind of funny. I think this dog might have gotten a little to close for Jeff’s comfort.

I really like how this one turned out… Maybe one of my favorite photos of the day.

A little sparkler exit for at the end of the night.
