I joined Liz and Victor at Duke Gardens near Duke University for their engagement photos. They are part of the growing number of people that met through internet dating. Hooray for technology I say! They originally met on Match.com and went on their first date at the Sitar India Palace in Durham followed by coffee at Francesca’s and enjoyed talking so much that they stayed up chatting until 2:30am. They also love Latin food, but we’ll eat anything.
They both have a lot in common. Both have family from Latin America although Victor made fun of Liz for her horrible command of the spanish language. Both are also transplants to NC, and they’re both residents who work on “the head.” Victor is a physician (ENT resident) and Liz is a pediatric dentist. They told me that their careers basically deal with spit, snot and science and I didn’t press any further than that.
Currently, they both have busy residency schedules and I think they were ecstatic to take a break from their paper work and come out and play during our photoshoot. I had asked them about what kinds of music they like. Liz says that Victor is on the verge of being a professional sax player and that they both watch American Idol religiously.
They also decided to bring their dog “Benji” along for a few photos. He’s a rescue dog from a shelter in a run-down neighborhood in Philly. They shared with me that sometimes we let him “help” with the dishes and despite being half blind and quite old, he’s still the king of the house. They also told me that his bed consists of a down comforter that he fluffs up every night before he goes to sleep. He’s come a long way from the “Streets of Philadelphia.” Eat your heart out Bruce Springsteen!
UPDATE: The wedding photos have been posted HERE.

A gust of wind blows some flowers across Liz and Victor. I’ll confess that I helped the cause a bit by slightly shaking the branch next to them.

They told me that they were going to send their photo to the New York Times to be published. They said that our eyes have to be at about the same height for the photo to be accepted. I had no idea…

Oh Benji! You were almost impossible to shoot. This pic is in front of a mural downtown that had recently been painted by a bunch of children. The owner of the store front and his wife were there and shared with us that it was going to be taken down the next day. It makes me so happy when I can preserve these shots and promised to send them the finished photo as a thank you for letting us photograph in front of it.
