Marry Me Ron Stutts – Wedding Contest at Top of the Hill Restaurant

I’m excited to announce my participation in an upcoming wedding contest hosted WCHL at the newly-opened Great Room at Top of the Hill Restaurant on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill North Carolina.

The promotion centers around the WCHL Morning Show Host of 32 years, Ron Stutts. The staff has convinced him to become “ordained” so he can officiate as WCHL gives away (and conducts) their very first wedding!

After the contest began on Valentine’s Day couples were encouraged to enter their name into the drawing which runs until March 12th. The winners will be chosen on March 15th at the Il Palio Restaurant in the beautiful Siena Hotel and I’ll also be there to document all the fun!

In August (final date to be determined) the lucky couple will not only be exchanging their vows in front of 100 of their closest friends and family but the entire wedding will be broadcast LIVE on WCHL!

When the staff shared with me that they thought that my photography was one of the most candid and engaging they had found, I was quite flattered but also thought that my style would be a perfect fit for a fun and “sure to be unpredictable” wedding! I have a hunch that I won’t be asked to tag along on their honeymoon night at The Fearrington though. :)

I would love to see everyone at the Grand Prize giveaway celebration on March 15th and am looking forward to the wedding in August of 2010.

MY RADIO AD is also available if you’d like to listen. I’m sure you’ll be able to tell that I should never be a radio personality. :)

Raleigh Winterfest Downtown Raleigh Alliance North Carolina

This past weekend I photographed Winterfest in downtown Raleigh NC. I had a lot of fun and it was the perfect event to put me in right state of mind for the holidays. I also always appreciate watching other performance art such as dancing and singing and I must say that there was no lack of incredible talent in this department.

The ice rink was particularly fetching to the eye but probably one of my favorite parts was watching the kids (and their moms and dads) squeal with delight as they launched themselves on plastic saucers down custom snow shoots. The sleds weren’t coated with Clark W. Griswald’s super slippery polymer but they moved right along just the same. The ice rink is still open so if you get a chance please try to make it out to visit it this year.

Known as a plein air painter (which is French for “in the open air”) these talented artists paint cityscapes and unique scenes in downtown Raleigh during specific events. This is Doug Strickland. More of his work can be found at www.dougstricklandart.com

Raleigh has installed brand new blue street signs throughout the city this past year. I think they are a nice addition.

I love the song “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” These girls from Explore Dance did an excellent job in acting out the classic lyrics from the original cartoon special. James Earl Jones and Dr. Seuss never looked so good!

girls choir singing event

The St. Mary’s Choral Group sounded beautiful and had there own set of excited groupies in the front row during their performance.

This young lady had an excellent solo rendition… I can’t remember the song she sang though.

So you think YOU can dance? The City Ballet took the stage in colorful costumes and had some serious airtime in each of their jumps!

The Raleigh Little Theatre sings “So bring us some figgy pudding…!” in the most convincing of voices. Be sure to check out their performance of Cinderalla this year.

ray walker singer

Winterfest welcomed Ray Walker to the stage. He’s starred on Broadway in Les Misérables, Grease and Jesus Christ Superstar. Being in the front row, I can say first hand that this guy has a real strength and control in his voice! Wow! Currently, he’s the artistic director for the North Carolina Theatre Conservatory which is part of North Carolina Theatre’s education department.

Ira David Wood III offered up a poignant reading of “The Night Before Christmas.” He is an actor, singer, theater director and playwright and is currently the Executive Director of a community theatre company in Raleigh, North Carolina. He’s heavily active with the community theatre called Theatre in the Park and one of the stars of A Christmas Carol.

michelle branch singing live

The headliner for the event that had everyone buzzing and (I’m sure helped with the great turnout) was Michelle Branch.

This little girl was super cute holding up her homeade sign. I tried to get her backstage to meet Michelle but she had to go immediately following her set.

At first I felt bad that none of these kids have probably experienced “real” sledding before but after seeing how much fun they were having, I was happy that they got to experience the next best thing. I LOVE the look on this kids face. Snow and ramps were provided by Snow My Yard.

Many event-goers were sporting stylish and “not so stylish” christmas sweaters. But that’s half the fun right?

Talented Christmas carolers occupied the streets and filled the air with holiday tunes. Even better than an IPOD!

Baileys Jewelry Finders Keepers / Downtown Raleigh and Solas

This past weekend I headed to downtown Raleigh to help photograph a city wide high-tech treasure hunt for a $20,000 diamond ring! The event was called “Ultimate Finders Keeper’s” and was hosted by Bailey’s Fine Jewelry. The object of the competition was to score the highest number of points by correctly answering questions that were delivered to each entrants cell phones.

Teams were made up of two players each and the winners would win a “passion cut” diamond ring that weighed in at over two carats. As you’ll see in the photographs below this was the real deal my friends. The after party took place at the popular Solas Restaurant and Lounge. Hundreds of couples participated in the event so the dual tier location was perfect. The weather was off and on rain all day so it made it a little tricky to get all of the photographs I would have wanted but I did my best.

I also have more individual photos on my facebook if you’d like to to see CLICK HERE.
