For Allyson and Philip’s engagement photos we explored several areas in Raleigh including Meredith College, The JC Raulston Arboretum and Moore Square. They are getting married THIS May so we cut this one a little close but I think it was great that we were able until the weather warmed up at Spring was in full bloom. Last week I had worked with Allyson to photograph her bridal portrait at The Sutherland in Wake Forest but I’m not allowed to show those yet. It’s probably for the best because I don’t think Philip would have been able to stay off the website after he had heard how gorgeous she looked.
While we explored downtown Raleigh I was glad that neither of them have allergies with all of the pollen in the air! Sometimes it’s just fun to explore and just see what you stumble upon. Allyson went to Meredith College so it was great to be able to include that on our list. As usual I tried to provide a variety of formal portraits as well as fun creative posed engagement photos.
They’re a sweet and an “up for anything” couple to work with and they shared with me that they may have a special surprise for their wedding! It’s only one month away and is going to be a blast.

These engagement photos were taken in the Moore Square park near the market.

As we walked in the Moore Square Market I noticed that a new wedding venue called Cobblestone Hall is opening up soon. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to photograph there too.

I had an idea for a few creative photographs of the couple playing telephone with a couple tin cans. It was a last minute idea so I was dumping spaghetti sauce into tupperware early that morning and running around to find string at the last minute to try to create them. Sorry they smelled like Ragu guys!

We referred to these as the iCan. In this one I told Allyson to send Philip an old school text message and she started laughing really hard!

This might be one of my favorites of the day…

We then headed down to the Meredith College tunnel where the walls are covered with paintings and creative murals. Tea for two anyone?

We found one that said May 2010! I thought they might be able to use this for Thank You cards perhaps…

This is at a beautiful pond at The JC Raulston Arboretum.

In our exploration we stumbled upon an outdoor hockey rink…

We had fun playing around even though we didn’t have hockey equipment. In this one I asked Allyson to try to score on Philip by running passed him.

In this set I told the couple to try to “body check” and pin each other up against the hockey glass as they tried to plant a kiss on their fiance. The reaction on Philip’s face was great in this one.

I of course asked them to use a little restraint so that know one got hurt… but it still made for some great natural shots!

We spotted some uprooted trees on the campus and I just thought these would make for some unique portraits.

I also really loved how this photo turned out.
