Married at Elvis Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas (Jerica + Brandon)

Here’s something totally different! It’s an Elvis themed wedding from Las Vegas Nevada! While I was visiting Vegas to photograph a “traditional wedding” I decided to extend my stay for a few extra days. During that time, I was fortunate enough to book a few “personal sessions” as wedding photography. I thought it would be a fun change of pace. If I’m being totally honest I was also REALLY curious to see what one of these “Chapel Vegas Weddings” were like too!

As you can imagine, when you get married in Las Vegas, the weddings are super short and don’t follow the traditional rules of weddings. It seemed like a perfect fit for me since many of you know that I’m a bit unconventional myself.

One of the best parts about being a wedding photographer is that EVERY wedding is unique… It’s kind of like snowflakes (in a sense) I guess. Even if someone planned the exact same wedding and the same timeline, surprises will inevitably arise. I like the challenge of taking these unplanned moments that pop up and turning them into great photographs. I like to think that I can make anyone look great whether they’re wearing a beautiful wedding gown or a tshirt and jeans.

To me it doesn’t matter how many people are at a wedding as long as the couple is madly in love with each other. I could tell that this was the case with Jerica and Brandon… SO let’s check out these photos as I give you front row seats to a “hunk of burnin’ love.” Sorry… I couldn’t resist!

And here we go…

You reach the altar pretty quick when the aisle is only ten feet long. I only had time to take one or two photographs.

I love how Brandon’s expression and posture really conveys how excited, happy, and nervous he was to start the wedding ceremony.

One of my favorite lines from their Elvis based vows were “I’ll never step on your blue suede shoes… and I promise never to wear blue suede shoes… For as long as we both shall live”

Friends and family jump in at the end to help sing and dance to “Viva Las Vegas.”

I really love this last photo with “Elvis” and the young married couple. Jerica couldn’t stop laughing as Brandon shook his hips and gave me his best Elvis impersonation. It was as if he was doing and impersonation of an impersonator doing an impersonation of Elvis…

I love the way you capture the essence in every photo. So much fun, emotion, excitement going on and all beautifully captured. Excellent work!

Taste Carolina – Raleigh NC Food Tours (Lesley + Joe)

My good friends Joe Philipose and Lesley Stracks-Mullem from Taste Carolina Gourmet Food Tours recently asked me to tag along one of their Raleigh food tours. I jumped at the chance because it combines two of my favorite passions… food and fotos! I became friends with Joe after meeting him at a Meetup party and my wife attended school with Lesley. Due to all of our busy schedules I haven’t had a chance to hang out with them as much as I would like but I hope to see them more as my schedule slows just a bit this winter. I really do think they are great people with great personalities.

Taste Carolina is an amazing concept where local North Carolina residents as well as out of towners are treated to a “sampler platter” of some of the finest restaurants, chat with chefs and owners, and learn more about the local history of a given area. Their current focus is the Triangle region including Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill and Carrboro area. Their walking tours cover a length of 2-3 miles and includes visits to six to eight total restaurants and shops.

briggs hardware building raleigh

I personally enjoyed learning about the historic Briggs Hardware bulding. It’s a four story building bulit in 1874 by Thomas Briggs as a family-owned hardware store. It is also currenlty home to The Raleigh City Museum. Don’t you just love the reflecting light from the buildings across the street?

We passed Raleigh Times Bar and Morning Times on East Hargett Street. It is over 100 years old. Old images and press clippings hang from the walls. I’ve had a few of their beers and have also eaten on their outdoor patio near Hargett Street. I don’t think there has been a single time when I’ve passed by and the place wasn’t bustling with activity.

I bet this shopkeeper wished he was on a food tour instead of working. I caught this photograph as the group passed across the street.

sitti lebanese restaurant

We now arrive at Sitti in Raleigh. Sitti is an authentic lebanese restaurant that is the brainchild of Greg Hatem. He joined forces with the Saleh family, owners of the area’s Neomonde restaurants, to open Sitti. It’s a tribute to the grandmothers (or sittis) who are the caretakers and teachers of the Lebanese culture.

I really want to do that tour…even though I’ve been to half of those places. That is exciting about Sitti starting to do receptions in the courtyard. That would be so pretty…and yummy.

Umstead Hotel and Spa Wedding Reception (Amber + Magnus)

What is it we have here? Well… It’s Magnus and Amber’s wedding photographs! Their ceremony took place at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Raleigh and their wedding reception was at the famous Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary, NC. I’ve never met a “Magnus” in my life and when I heard his name I KNEW that I had to photograph their wedding… I mean seriously… What a cool name! Both Amber and Magnus are super nice people, and as usual they’ve surrounded themselves with some fun family and friends too.

There were so many great moments with lots of details to share from this one, so I’m going to do something a little different this time around. I’m going to get right into the photos and just share the backstory or my oh so poignant observations as captions. A special thank you goes out to the on-site social catering manager, Ami Wheeler and the amazing staff who treated me so nicely. I always enjoy photographing weddings at The Umstead! Beautiful artwork and a classy hip atmosphere make a perfect backdrop for any wedding. So let’s check out some photographs…

Craig, I just viewed these pictures of my daughter’s wedding. And I cried… They are so….. beautiful!! You have truly captured the feeling of the wedding and reception. I have been to a lot of weddings but never was a photographer more kind, considerate, and truly talented. My daughter looked simply beautiful and Magnus so handsome. You have captured some very special moments that Amber and Magnus will treasure forever. And I will too!! Thank you for a magnificent job! You are the cameraman!! Sincerely, Elizabeth
