The Groome Inn Weddings / Engagement Session (Katie + Brian)

I met Katie and Brian for their engagement portraits at a venue I had not been to before called The Groome Inn in Greensboro, NC. They were great to work with. As you can see, Brian is quite tall compared to Katie but I actually enjoyed being creative in posing them in ways that made them still look amazing together… With a couple this good looking I can say it wasn’t too hard to do!

The staircase at the Groome Inn is really awesome. We did a variety of poses on it.

I thought this one was quite sweet.

I’m not sure if this was a barn or an old house but it made for a really great backdrop. I positioned them in the doorway and the foliage did the rest.

I found these giant steel rings near the old barn and though one of them would compliment Katie’s engagement ring quite well.

Wedding Crasher Squirrel / Banff National Park / Canada

As I was taking a break today (It’s been a LONG week!) I happened to come across the freshly famous crasher banff squirrel. If your not familiar with the story of this little guy, he has become Canada’s most famous animal after popping up into a timed photo being taken by an American couple at a lake in Banff National Park.

This viral internet sensation has really taken off and a few people have begun to photoshop the squirrel into a variety of photographs for fun. It’s even recently been featured in National Geographic. As a wedding photographer my brain started to whir… I thought… Crasher… Wedding Crasher… Wedding Crasher Squirrel !

After sorting, cropping and editing thousands of photos every week sometimes your brain just needs a reboot I guess. I had in mind the perfect photo for it from Leigh and Duncan’s wedding. My disclaimer is that this was done completely for fun and I hope no one thinks that I don’t take my craft seriously… This couple was really fun though and I hope a few of my clients, friends and wedding vendors crack a smile when they see it.

Kress Terrace Greensboro Wedding / Engagement Photography (Cicely + Tony)

Last year I only had a few chances to photograph in Greensboro so I was really excited to meet with Cicely and Tony to snap their engagement pictures at the Kress Terrace in downtown Greensboro. They are having their wedding ceremony and reception there in September of 2010 and it is one of the only rooftop venues in all of North Carolina. It’s such a special meaning to them because of that fact, that I thought it would be a perfect location for their e session.

Before we get to the good stuff here’s some tidbits about the couple… Cicely was born in Birmingham, AL and grew up in Dyersburg, TN. Tony (aka Anthony) was born in Long Branch, NJ and was raised in Baltimore, MD. They both currently live in Durham, NC where they are students. Tony is also an Electrician and Cicely is a Doctoral Student, Statistician, and Adjunct Instructor. I know that’s a lot of stuff… And now they are adding wedding planning to their busy schedules. :)

So how did these two meet up? Well… Cicely shared her blog with me and it’s such a unique story that I thought it would be great to post from there. :) In her words…

” I used to work at Arden B. (a trendy women’s boutique at Southpoint Mall). I was in charge of doing the windows and changing each mannequin’s outfit. I was so busy working that I forgot that my back was facing the window. Needless to say passersby got a good view of my butt…LOL! It must have looked good to my fiance because he came into the shop and asked me if “I liked basketball?”….of course I do! The rest is history. We have been friends for over 6 years now and enjoy watching sports (basketball is our fave), good movies, and hanging out on the beach.”

I also saw that Cicely’s other guilty pleasures also include chocolate, mexican food, shopping, GNOs with BFFs, a good moscatto, and Mr. Miyagi of course! When we met I also found out that this girl has a wicked sense of style! She not only wore some awesome leopard peep toe high heels but a pink rose in her hair and stunning blue dress. I’m a guy so I don’t know everything there is to know about women’s fashion but I can say that this couple was smokin together! Don’t worry Tony… Your wingtip shoes were great too… but Cicely sort of stole the show. :) Here’s the evidence of that…

Sometimes I like to photograph couples on simple backgrounds. It really makes them the subject of the photo.

The Kress Terrace in downtown Greensboro is the perfect location for a rooftop wedding! You can contact Melissa T. Robinson for more information.

These two looked awesome from head to toe… Cicely rocked her leopard peep toe heels!
