Heather had emailed me after seeing her good friend Courtney’s engagement session photos. She mentioned that she “loved how I captured their personalities perfectly, even though I didn’t know them as well as she did!”
They’ve been together for almost 10 years and married for almost 6. Matt grew up overseas (mostly in Southeast Asia) and Heather grew up in Northern Virginia. They both went to the University of Virginia and both sang in a choir at UVA. One night, she gave Matt and some friends a ride up to George Mason University so they could sing in a concert. On the way back Heather got pulled over for speeding. She then later got her car stuck in a ditch and had to have it towed out and began crying really hard in front of everyone else in the car. It was just one of those days I guess! :-) Somehow, Matt stuck around.
One of their favorite things to do is travel. Before they were pregnant they would jetset several times a year, and have been to a wide variety of international destinations including London, Italy, Indonesia and Thailand. After checking those off their list they decided to start a family, although they’ll admit that their dog “Piper” and their cat “Smudge” were their first babies.
We had a great shoot together. They shared with me that they also like to host house party’s. I noticed some photos at their house from murder mystery party they had earlier that year. That lead us to the discussion of board games and how much each of us liked playing them. I was a little inspired and wanted to try something a little different. I asked them if they had Scrabble and sure enough… they did.
I then asked them the name of their baby and told them that I would spell her name out across her belly for a unique photograph. To my surprise the baby’s name was “Meridian” … as in prime meridian … as in the equator. Are you with me? I thought that was really awesome and quite fitting! I got really excited and proceeded to take some creative photographs. They told me that I was the ONLY person that knew her name and they swore me to secrecy. I told them my lips were sealed.
Later after the shoot, Heather sent me an email saying how nice it was that we did the maternity photography in the comfort of their home. She said she wasn’t sure I would have been nearly as comfortable if we had been somewhere else and was excited to see the intimate nature of the photos.
