I must admit that I do love animals. Throughout my childhood my family always had a pet of some sort in our house. It was a literal zoo between all the fish, hamsters, birds, cats, dogs, snakes, mice, bunnies, and hermit crabs. As I got older I found that I was on the go a lot and never got my own pet because I always felt that I would be neglecting them.
My wife had made a decree that she wanted a cat. I knew that they were low maintenance and I didn’t have anything against cats but I didn’t really have a good impression of them from back in the day. Most of our friends and family had cats with bad attitudes that would just ignore you completely. My disposition seemed to be more inclined toward a dog perhaps…
Then a campaign started in early 2007. Kate told all of our friends that they needed to help her with her quest for a feline companion. For the next year all I heard was “A Cat for Kate in 2008!” By the end of the year we decided to adopt a kitten from a local shelter here in North Carolina.
It was Kate’s Christmas present so technically she got a “cat for Kate in 2007.” It doesn’t have quite the same ring to it so her thought is “I always make sure I meet my goals ahead of time!”
I told Kate that I would get to name the cat in exchange for “giving into her campaign.” I searched deep down and channeled my inner child. The name “Snarf” from the 80′s cartoon “Thundercats” range out loud and clear as the perfect name!
Here’s one of the first photos we took of her. Please don’t hold it against me that I’m blogging a cat. Hopefully we’ll become friends.
